Sietze Dolstra (Amsterdam, 29 mei 1946) was een Nederlands cabaretier en zanger. Vanaf zijn 16e trad hij op met eigen teksten en zelfgeschreven muziek, waarbij Toon Hermans zijn grote voorbeeld was. Tijdens zijn studie Nederlands en de lerarenopleiding bleef hij ook optreden. In 1976 bracht hij de LP "Vandaag is alweer gisteren" uit, en werkte in de jaren daarna vooral als tekstschrijver aan programma's als Kwistig met Muziek, Bananasplit, Radar en Z@ppsport. In zijn carrière kreeg hij een Zilveren Harp en de Prix de Monaco voor Europees radio-amusement. In 1979 bracht hij het album "Twee Levens" uit met de single "Ze Hebben Je Niet Meer Nodig". Het nummer gaat over een vrouw die getrouwd is met een vrachtwagenchauffeur en die altijd van huis is, en haar opgroeiende zoon die het huis verlaat.

"I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper", is a 1978 single written by Jeff Calvert and Max West of Typically Tropical and performed by Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip. It is notable as the debut of the then teenage Brightman as a singer, and reached number six in the UK Singles Chart.
The song is a lightweight space disco track that cashed in on the media hype surrounding the original Star Wars film: the lyrics include the lines "And evil Darth Vader has been banished to Mars" and "Or are you like a droid, devoid of emotion". The song also samples music from Star Wars, Thus Spoke Zarathustra (from 2001: A Space Odyssey), and the "spaceship communication" melody from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Many of the lyrics contain mild sexual innuendo; for example, "Take me, make me feel the force". Other television and film science fiction references are "Flash Gordon's left me, he's gone to the stars", "What my body needs is close encounter three", and "Fighting for the Federation" and "Static on the comm - it's Starfleet Command".
The song was performed on The Kenny Everett Video Show by its regular dance troupe Hot Gossip. Its lead, Sarah Brightman, was dressed in a silver catsuit and platform shoes.

'Riu Riu' by the English group Chorale entered the Dutch Top 40 on December 16, 1978 and reached the no. 28 position. I think the song was performed on some TV shows at the time, but I can't be sure.
'Riu Riu' is a Spanish composition of the type known as a 'villancico', dating from the sixteenth century. The lyric concerns the shepherds in the biblical Christmas story and observes, among other things, the 'one born today is actually his mother's father and the one who created her is said to be her son.' A good message, now that Christmas is almost upon us. Even for us unbelievers.

"Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight") is a song by Thin Lizzy in 1977. Thin Lizzy is an Irish hard rock band formed in Dublin in 1969, originally led by bassist, songwriter and singer Phil Lynott.
From "Bad Reputation" their eighth studio album, released in 1977.
"Dancing In The Moonlight" should not be confused (although often it is) with a similarly titled song, "Dancing in the Moonlight"; recorded by King Harvest and Toploader, amongst others.
The Smashing Pumpkins covered "Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in Its Spotlight)" for various live performances, turning the upbeat, overlayed melody of the original into a slowly-paced acoustic tune.

What Fun! is een Nederlandse reggaegroep uit Haarlem die bestond van 1981 tot 1989 en heropgericht werd in 2005. De groep had in 1983 een hit met "The Right Side" won.
What Fun! werd in 1981 opgericht door saxofonist John O'Hare. In de beginperiode bestond de groep naast de oprichter uit zanger Martin Richardson, gitarist Nico Notebaart, toetsenist Erst Renout, drummer Carl Cabenda en bassiste Linda Rolinger. Later verliet Rolinger de groep en kwamen Els Geuzebroek, Han Voet, Patricia van Zoeren,Christian Bini en de achtergrondzangeressen Elsken Pompe, Sita Hes en Yolande Berendsen erbij.
In 1983 brak de groep door dankzij een optreden in het radioprogramma VARA's Popkrant, waar ze het nummer "The Right Side" won speelde. Het nummer ging over de onzin van oorlog voeren en was een reactie tegen de Falklandoorlog die een jaar eerder woedde. What Fun! trad ook op in AVRO's Toppop en Countdown en de single haalde in het voorjaar van 1984 de derde plaats van de Nederlandse Top 40.

Angie (real name: Angela Porter)
Formerly a pupil at the Corona stage school who appeared on numerous British TV programs, Angie Porter is no stranger to the singing game. As a child she worked with legendary producer Trevor Horn, providing backing vocals for The Buggles number one hit, ''Video Killed The Radio Star." Aged eleven, she teamed up with The Who's Pete Townshend and released a single, ''Peppermint Lump'', on the seminal Stiff label. It was Radio One''s Record Of The Week. Promises was a Canadian based pop group which was founded 1978 in Thousand Oaks, California.
The members were the siblings Leslie Maria Knauer (vocals), Jed Knauer (guitar, piano) and Benny Knauer (keyboards).
Their album "Promises" which was recorded by EMI Electrola record producer Steve Verroca became a flop in the USA and in the UK but their single "Baby It's You" became a smash hit in Europe (especially in Germany where it reached number 4 in the charts) in February 1979.
The group entered the studio to record a U.S. album on Capitol Records produced by Jack Nitzsche, but discordance with that producer resulted in the plug being pulled on the sessions.
After the second single "Let's Get Back Together" became much less, the group split.

Although the break up of the duo at the beginning of the decade appeared terminal, Garfunkel was obviously never far from Paul Simon’s thoughts.
“My Little Town” was the song Artie always wanted to write and Simon imaginatively represents his soulmate’s troubled early years living in a dull environment.
Handicapped by the frustrations of non-artistic expectations from peers and community, the song perfectly represents the sense of anxiety for the mundanity of a normal life amongst the respectable middle classes.

Zangeres Bernadette Kraakman verlaat eind 1982 de band voor een solocarrière (drie singles) en nam in 1983 voor Nederland deel aan het Eurovisie Songfestival. Fat Eddy Band bestond 10 jaar.
De groep ontwikkelde zich in de beginperiode 1972-1979 van 'hippieband' via vele bezettingswisselingen tot een meer commerciële act en was ook korte tijd de begeleidingsband van Margriet Eshuijs.
